内容摘要： In this paper, we study the impact of gender identity on students’ performance in mathematics in junior high schools in China, by using data from the baseline wave of the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS). We find that traditional gender identity reduces girls’ performance in mathematics; however, it has non-significant impact on boys’ performance. Two possible mechanisms are investigated. Traditional gender identity significantly reduces girls’ educational aspirations and educational expectations. And girls with traditional gender identity are less likely to take more competitive (Olympic) mathematics off-campus training.
主讲人简介： 叶兵，法国图卢兹经济学院经济学博士，现任浙江大学经济学院副教授、博士生导师、求是青年学者。研究领域包括产业组织理论（特别是数字经济）、非正式制度或文化的经济影响等；其目前已经于China Economic Review, Journal of Economics等中英文杂志发表十多篇学术论文。
